The Challenge: A Damp and Dated Cellar
Before our intervention, the cellar presented several significant challenges. Predominantly, it suffered from damp, a common issue in older cellar spaces. Furthermore, the existing layout was inefficient, and the heating system was inadequate for creating a comfortable living environment. Our Solution: A Comprehensive Renovation

Damp Proofing and Drainage
To combat the damp, a completely new drainage system was installed, allowing any damp to collect and be removed by the new drainage. This was followed by full tanking over the top, creating an impermeable barrier to prevent any future moisture ingress into the newly renovated cellar. This foundational work was crucial for ensuring the long-term integrity and comfort of the space.
Insulation and Flooring
With the damp proofing in place, we focused on insulation to enhance thermal efficiency and comfort. Insulation was installed all around the room, significantly improving its energy performance. Underneath the new floor screed, additional flooring insulation was laid, further contributing to a warm and dry environment.
Joinery and Gas Works
Steve, who is also a skilled joiner, completed both first and second fix joinery, ensuring a high-quality finish throughout the renovated area. Concurrently, our Gas Safe registered engineers carried out essential gas works, including the safe relocation of the gas meter and an upgrade to the gas pipework to meet modern standards and increased demand.
Lighting and Ambience
To create a pleasant and well-lit ambience, modern spotlights were installed, transforming the previously dim cellar into a bright and welcoming area.
The New En-Suite Bathroom
A key feature of this renovation was the creation of a brand new room with an en-suite bathroom. Given the below-ground location, a macerator pump was installed for the toilet, efficiently pumping waste water upwards to the main drainage system. A quiet extractor fan was fitted to ensure proper ventilation and maintain a fresh atmosphere.
Exterior Enhancements
The project also extended to the exterior of the property, with the creation of new exterior steps, providing safe and easy access to the renovated cellar. These steps were then finished with durable and aesthetically pleasing exterior tiling.
